What is the closest airport to Big Sky, Montana?

If you’re planning a trip to Big Sky, make sure you book your flights to the right airport.

Anyone who is booking a flight to Big Sky on a major airline should fly into the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN). The Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport is located in Belgrade, MT near Interstate 90. BZN is roughly 45 miles from Big Sky and it’s about an hour drive.

The Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport is the busiest airport in Montana. As a year-round gateway to Big Sky, Montana State University, Bridger Bowl, Yellowstone National Park, and SW Montana, the airport offers both regular and seasonal direct flights with all major US airlines.

At the time of this post, there are direct flights to Bozeman from 16 destinations, including Atlanta, Denver, Dallas/Fort Worth, Newark Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, La Guardia, Long Beach, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Chicago, Portland, Phoenix, Seattle, San Francisco, and Salt Lake City.

No matter where you are located in the world, it’s easy to get to Big Sky, Montana. Search for flights to BZN and book your trip today. Once you visit Big Sky, you may never want to go anywhere else.

While writing this article, I did a bit of research on the closest airport to Big Sky. Surprisingly, the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport is NOT the closest airport to Big Sky.

Did you know that there are several public and private airports that are closer? Unfortunately, it would be difficult, if not impossible, to book your flights to Big Sky to these closer airports. But let’s take a look anyways. This info might make for a fun fact at Trivia Night or on the chairlift.

According to AirNav.com, there are 20 airports within 50 miles of Big Sky, Montana. Of those 20 airports, 7 are public airports and 13 are private airports. Five of the airports (3 public and 2 private) on this list caught my eye and are worth noting due to their proximity to Big Sky.

Now let’s take a closer look at the closest airports to Big Sky, Montana:

  • Private: Ousel Falls Airport – 3.9 mi W
  • Private: Nine Quarter Circle Ranch Airport – 13.8 mi S
  • Public: Ennis-Big Sky Airport (EKS) – 19.2 mi W
  • Public: Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN) – 35.7 mi N
  • Public: Yellowstone Airport (WYS) 40.4 mi S
Did you know that there is a private airport in Big Sky? Or that there is an airport at Taylor Fork? Isn’t it surprising that there are so many airports so close to Big Sky, Montana? Ok, let’s face the facts, you’ll probably never fly to any of these airports except the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN), but it’s cool to know that other airports exist nearby, right? #funfact

At this point, if you’re flying to Big Sky, you’re going to need to book your flights to BZN as it is the closest airport to Big Sky if you are going to fly commercially. See you soon!
